Combining the creativity of nature with the art of craft brewing

Compiled by OutdoorsNW Staff

An innovative pairing between brewmaster Eric Steen’s love of beer and his love of the outdoors has produced a successful educational program called Beer Made by Walking (BMBW).

This program invites brewers from the Pacific Northwest, Colorado and North Carolina to craft beer inspired by hikes in nature and walks through urban landscapes. The result is hand-crafted brews that are each uniquely different and are a creative reflection of the edible and medicinal plants found along these landscapes.

BMBW has hosted walking and tasting events in Bellingham, Seattle and Carnation in Washington state for the past three years. To learn more about BMBW and when they will be visiting the Northwest, check out its website,
