The staff at OutdoorsNW hopes you’ve already had a sweet and fantastic outdoor adventure in 2016.
My beau, Dan, and I celebrated New Year’s Day with a six-mile snowshoe hike with friends along the Saddle Rock overlook trail network in Wenatchee, Washington. It was our first high-desert snowshoe excursion and the view of the Columbia River surrounded by snowy peaks and valleys was stunning and inspiring.
This will be an inspiring year for OutdoorsNW magazine as well!
New Columns, New Writers!
To celebrate the National Park Service Centennial this year, we will publish a five-part series featuring the seven National Parks found in the Northwest region of the United States.
In this edition we highlight Yellowstone, Glacier and Grand Teton National Parks.
In future editions we’ll feature Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, and Mount Rainier, Olympic and North Cascades National Parks in Washington.
We also have a few new columns we hope you’ll love!
The new Road Trip column will highlight fun travel adventures via vehicle, cycle or foot. We’ve added the Get Wet column to feature all water-related activities and the Go Pedal column will debut in the annual NW Cyclist edition in March.
Alternating with each edition will be a sidebar called Adventure Hacks, a list of cool tips for adventurers; and Field Notes which will highlight outdoors observations and experiences. We changed the name of the NW Kids column to Adventure Kiddos. Amy Whitley, who has written the column for several years, will be joined by new writers to stoke you and your kiddos to venture outside for family-inspired adventures.
We also updated the name of our Escapes feature to Destinations. We hope you’ll enjoy these travel adventures as much as we love writing about them. Our running column, On the Run, also has a new writer this year. We welcome back Yitka Winn, one of our previous editors, who most recently served as an editor at Trail Runner magazine and has become an accomplished mountain trail runner.
Our ever-popular NW Trails, Buzz, Event Calendar and reviews on gear, books and food will continue in each edition.
We love to hear from our readers so let us know what you think of our changes and new columns. Help us be the best outdoor magazine in the Northwest and we’ll do our best to inspire you into action and adventure!
