Managing Editor and Social Media Content Manager

We are a small, but mighty, publishing house with a team of fun, creative and dedicated outdoors enthusiasts. OutdoorsNW magazine focuses on outdoor events, races, sports and adventures in the Pacific Northwest. For the past 29 years we have been the trusted voice of outdoors recreation in the region.

We are looking for a dynamic and seasoned Managing Editor/Social Media Content Manager to join the publishing team of Price Media, Inc. The managing editor will be responsible for the entire print publishing process for six bimonthly OutdoorsNW magazines, the annual NW Cyclist magazine and annual SNOW Guide, along with smaller customized client projects. The managing editor is also responsible for all digital publishing on the website, in the biweekly Enewsletter and on the company’s social media platforms.

The ideal candidate will have project management and sales experience along with a proven track record of AP style writing and editing skills for both print and digital publications and social media content management experience. This is a full-time position based in Seattle, Washington.

Requirements to succeed in this position:

Proven History Required

Four-year degree in journalism or related field.

Minimum of two years each as a writer, editor and as social media content manager.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, WordPress, Constant Contact, Hoot Suite, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram and web-based applications and databases.

Integrity to meet deadlines and deliver quality material and information.

Ability to lead, coordinate and manage administration tasks associated with media publishing.

Excellent customer service skills with clear understanding of the importance of follow-up with contributors and industry partners.

Prerequisites

Strong written, verbal and communication skills.

In-depth understanding of social media.

Familiarity with general marketing concepts.

Sense of humor, flexibility and acceptance of difference among others.

Willingness and high aptitude to participate in collaboration efforts, brainstorm ideas and take projects to the finish line.

Knowledge on how to move the magazines forward and increase readership and sales revenue.

Team player, organized, detail-oriented, analytical, creative, flexible with the ability to multitask and effectively communicate and get jobs finished.

Task-oriented, with a keen focus on deadlines.

Willingness to travel and attend trade shows and conferences.

Willingness to complete other duties as assigned.

Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Editorial – Work with Publisher to create print editorial calendar and Enewsletter calendar, recruit and manage freelance contributors, assign and manage stories and art for print publication and website posts, manage online comments and submissions. Managing editor will traffic all print and digital editorial elements: fact-check, writing, editing, managing copy editor, manage publication and digital budgets and answer all editorial inquiries. The role also includes participating in the development of special sections and custom publications as needed.

Social Media – Post Web content and advertising collateral to social media platforms, create posts, schedule posts on Hoot Suite and monitor/report social media analytics.

Event calendar – Manage master events list in Excel, along with managing print and online event calendar.

Other Responsibilities – Keeping current on issues associated with job duties, collaborating with appropriate personnel, and communicating activities during staff meetings. Be available and willing to travel and attend trade shows and conferences, sometimes over the weekend, and a willingness to complete other duties as assigned.

Accountability:

This position reports to the Publisher and collaborates with the graphic director and sales team on a daily basis.

Compensation and benefits:

Compensation DOE. Benefits include PTO, a monthly contribution toward health insurance and 401(k) enrollment eligibility after 12 months.
