SOUTHERN OREGON – Hikers planning to visit the popular East Applegate Ridge Trail system near Ruch and Jacksonville will need to wait a bit longer. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has confirmed that the East Applegate Ridge Trailhead remains closed to public access until April 30th, 2025.

This seasonal closure, common for trails in the region, is typically implemented to protect wildlife, such as deer and elk, during critical wintering periods or to allow trails to dry out and prevent damage during wet conditions. The specific reason can vary, and trail users should always check official sources.

Access via the East Applegate Ridge Trailhead is expected to resume on May 1st, 2025. Until then, hikers should respect the closure and seek alternative trails in the area.

For the latest updates on trail status, potential extensions, and information on nearby open trails, visitors are encouraged to check the official BLM Medford District website or contact their office directly.
